How to set up a Google App Password

1. Turn on 2-Step Verification

App Passwords do not appear unless 2-Step Verification is enabled.

Under How you sign in to Google:

  • Click 2-Step Verification
  • Turn it on

You must finish setup (phone or authenticator app) before App Passwords are available.

2. Open the App Passwords page

Once 2-Step Verification is on, go here:

Select Mail and your device, then generate the password. Use that 16-character password below—not your regular Google password.

Enter your Gmail address and the 16-character App Password. We use Gmail’s IMAP and store your password encrypted.
